4 health tips for the fourth quarter

With just a few months left in 2016, now is the time to start focusing on next year’s goals. As this year moves into the fourth quarter, many of us are busy with weekend cookouts, tailgating — and the holidays are about to be upon us. Now is the time of year to develop a strategy for how to make next year even better than this year. Can I cut out things that didn’t work well? Where can I focus more to make next year’s results better? What is your strategy for better fitness in 2017?

Here are a few tips to help you get started on your strategy for next year’s nutrition and fitness goals.

  1. First, tell someone about your accomplishments from this past year and celebrate these. (Take a day to enjoy doing something fun and eat a treat!)
  2. List a few specific areas you want to improve on for next year. (Eat a healthier lunch, eat out less, prepare meals in advance, attend a high intensity interval training class 2 days a week).
  3. Once you have a few things listed, try to develop a strategy for improving on these areas. (Prepare my lunch with healthy protein and the right portions or make going out to eat only for special occasions like birthdays).
  4. Lastly, get a support group together (coach, spouse, workout partner), be the leader and make sure everyone stays on track. Compare areas that need improvement and work on strategies to hit your goals and help others hit theirs.

Celebrate what you’ve done this year, but plan on making next year even better by developing a smart and achievable nutrition and fitness strategy.
