This is the third post in Karen’s ‘Say Yes to the Dress’ blog installment. Karen will be dishing regularly on what we’re all thinking when it comes to body image.

A few years ago, I read “The Seven Experiment” (great book!) One of the chapters was on “clothing” and though you don’t know me yet…I try just about anything that is suggested to me. But no, I will not jump off the bridge if others do.

So I decided to do a mini-experiment from the book.

  • 1 week
  • 7 articles of clothing (+ undies and accessories)

Mine list looked something like this:

  • 1 pair of workout pants
  • 1 workout t-shirt
  • 1 black dress
  • 2 sweaters
  • 1 pair of work shoes
  • 1 pair of gym shoes

I wore the SAME black dress 5 days in a row to work, and on Sunday to church! (hey, if Kate can do it, I can do it too.)

Get this…no one even noticed! (I did wash it every night…otherwise the smell may have been a dead give-away…just a tip, if you decide to try this too!)

In fact, on day 4. DAY 4! My husband said “I like that dress, it looks great, is it new?” NO! I HAVE BEEN WEARING IT FOR 4 DAYS ALREADY!!!

But to keep with the secret experiment I simply said “no, I have had it for a while”… it was the truth!

The moral of the story…only you remember what you wear… Though (personally, a cute outfit makes me feel good) other people really aren’t paying as much attention as we think.

In fact…our friends MIGHT even like us for our personalities… and not just our clothes.

Who knew!?
