After several years of successfully growing the Iron Tribe Fitness franchise location in the East Memphis and Germantown areas, John Irvine took a cue from his community and decided to open a third location to meet the growing demand for the gym’s popular 45-minute workouts.
Recently closing on a deal with the brand new FEDEX Logistics Headquarters in the Old Gibson Building off George W Lee St., the new site calls for a 7,500-square-foot Facility located in the heart of downtown. Construction is estimated to be completed by Fall 2020.
“We can’t wait to open the doors on the downtown location,” said Irvine, who started out with one facility in 2014 and saw immediate success after opening. “It’s been wonderful to witness the East Memphis and Germantown locations grow and serve the Memphis community, and I have no doubt that this location will do the same. Looking back, all of this wouldn’t have been possible without the amazing team and community I’ve been so fortunate to have!”

Designed by LRK Architects, the Downtown gym will feature a different layout than the other two locations. Irvine said working in conjunction with FEDEX Corporate Wellness will provide some new design elements that will be unique to the Downtown location.
“Members can still expect the same level of excellence that’s found across all Iron Tribe gyms,” Irvine said. “But, of course, we want to build a community that’s specific to the Downtown area. We want this to become a place where people can not only improve their health, but also build lasting relationships.”
Forrest Walden, founder and CEO of Iron Tribe Fitness, said he can’t wait to see how the gym will continue to grow and thrive in the Memphis community. After watching Irvine grow as a franchise partner, he said this third Memphis location is primed for success.
“We’ve been fortunate with top-notch leadership in our Memphis market,” Walden said. “I’m looking forward to seeing more lives changed through fitness, nutrition and accountability in this third location.”
